Debbie vanBo is the new musical venture from British singer-songwriter and visual artist Jessica Illsley. After leaving London to find a more peaceful life in an ancient English forest she noticed a culture of toxic masculinity, predatory slime-balls, and Victorian dialogue around women and their place in society. Recognising a culture of silence amongst the women of her community she realised that these attitudes had been normalised.

Evil Man takes us on a journey into Debbie’s world. Sonics borrowed from Dolly Parton and JJ Cale, beats and hooks from Donna Summer, and that squirming narrative vocal in the tradition of Bob Dylan and the Delta Blues. Creep on her sisters and she’ll cut your hands off – no doubt about it.
